One of the many disadvantages of vassaldom is the suppression of national culture. In the case of the Russian Empire (and to some extent the Soviet one after that), Russian artists, writers and composers were given priority over their counterparts from minority nationalities living under the yoke of Russian despotism. In this series of pages, I offer brief profiles of Ukrainian cultural figures the world has largely overlooked.
